As I sat sipping coffee at a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew onto a lady’s lap. She screamed in terror and began flailing her arms to get rid of the pest. Her panic spread to the rest of her group, and everyone started acting hysterically.
The cockroach then landed on another lady, and the drama continued. The waiter rushed over to help, but in the chaos of the situation, the cockroach ended up on his shirt.
Surprisingly, the waiter remained calm and observed the cockroach’s behavior. He then calmly picked it up and threw it out of the restaurant.
As I watched, I realized that it wasn’t the cockroach that caused the hysteria, but the inability of the people to handle the disturbance caused by it. The women reacted instinctively, while the waiter responded thoughtfully.
This reminded me that in life, we should always respond instead of react. Reactions are instinctive, while responses are well thought out. It’s not the problems that cause chaos in our lives, but our reaction to those problems.
The lesson to be learned from this story is that happiness is not about everything being right in our lives, but having the right attitude towards everything in our lives. As the saying goes, “Happiness is not having what you want. It is wanting what you have.”
Wisdom:
“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.” The story of the cockroach reminds us that how we react to situations in life is what really matters. Our attitude can either make or break us. By responding calmly and thoughtfully, we can overcome any obstacle and reach new heights in our personal and professional lives.
