A11.15 – THE DISCIPLINE OF THE CHURCH

1. Discipline means to penalize an individual for breaking the laws with a view to restoring the individual, Prov 3:11-12

2. The Church is empowered to discipline erring members, 1Cor 5:4-5

3. The Church must discipline troublemakers among brethren, Prov 6:16-19

4. The Church must discipline those who sow discord among brethren, Rom 16:17-18

5. The Church must discipline those who are unruly, 1 Thess 5:14-15

6. The Church must discipline those who are disorderly, 2 Thess 3:6-7

7. The Church must discipline those who disobey doctrines, 1 Tim 6:3-5

8. The Church must discipline those who are immoral, 1 Cor 5:1-5

9. The purpose of discipline is to maintain standards of the Church, Matt 5:13-16

10. The purpose of discipline is to keep sin from spreading in the Church, Josh 7:10-12

11. The purpose of discipline is to help the disciplined retrace his steps back to God, 2Cor 2:6-7

12. The purpose of discipline is to withhold the severe judgment of God, 1 Cor 11:31-32
