- Prayer of Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving is an all-inclusive act that involves praise, worship and honour of God. Thanksgiving should be a regular part of our talking to God.
- Prayer of Supplications: Supplication means to petition, to make request or to entreat someone for something. Supplication is an attitude that accompanies prayer. It is a passionate zeal and hunger that fuels the prayer.
- Prayer of Intercessions: To intercede means to plead or mediate on behalf of another person. Intercession involves various degrees of supplication. It is not normally a one-off prayer; rather, it requires persistence, Lk 1:5-13
Examples are:
- a) Abraham pleaded for Lot, 17:18-20

Note:
In practice, there is much overlap in all of these different kinds of prayers. What may start as a prayer of faith can soon develop into intercession with supplications. There is no reason why we cannot apply any of the above types of prayers to all the situations that face us. Any of these kinds of prayers could be:
- a) Secret prayers such as personal and family prayers, 6:6
- b) Public prayers such as amongst congregation in the Church, Acts 4:24
