A9.10 – THE PROMISE OF GOD ON BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. God promised to put His Spirit on the Messiah, Isa 42:1-2

2. This prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He was filled, full and empowered by the Holy Spirit, Luke 4:18-19

3. It is the will of God that every Christian is baptized in the Holy Spirit, Acts 2:38-39

4. Jesus Christ promised to send another ‘Comforter’ who would take His place on earth, John 14:16-17

5. The period from the ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ till now is termed the dispensation of grace. It is the period of the Holy Spirit, Eph 1:10

6. The present period is known as the time of the Latter Rain when the Church can experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit, Zech 10:1

7. These days, God has promised to pour out of His Spirit upon all flesh, Joel 2:28-29

8. God also promised that He would put His Spirit within His people, Ezek 36:26-27

9. This promise is for you, Acts 2:39

10. The promise is the gift of the Holy Spirit, for anyone who believes, John 7:37-39

11. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit only came upon some people of God, especially Judges, prophets, priests and kings in order to perform specific assignment. And as soon as the assignment was over, the Holy Spirit left. But now, in the New Testament era and according to the Scriptures, all Christians are royal priests on whom and in whom the Holy Spirit comes to indwell, 1 Peter 2:9
